Biography of Mr. Chen Shenglai
(China Shanghai International Arts Festival)
Holder of Bachelor of Arts and MBA degree as well as the technical title of senior editor, Mr. Chen Shenglai serves as a guest researcher at Peking University and Fudan University, honorary professor at California State University, Chico, and visiting professor at Shanghai Normal University, Southwest University, Shanghai Institute of Visual Art of Fudan University and so on. He is currently the president of Association of Asian Performing Arts Festivals (AAPAF) and the Center for China Shanghai International Arts Festival.Mr. Chen is profoundly experienced in the press. In 1992, he founded the Shanghai East Radio (SER) Station where he held the position of director and editor in chief. Acclaimed by the leaders from Ministry of National Radio and Television as “the second milestone in China's broadcasting reform”, SER took the East China by storm and set off another upsurge of reform in the whole industry. In 2000, Mr. Chen received the “Outstanding Contribution Award” from the Research Institute of China Radio and Television Moderators for his remarkable achievements.
Mr. Chen is a planner, organizer and leader of leading international cultural events. In 2000, he is committed to the establishment of the Center for China Shanghai International Arts Festival, and started the Festival, the largest and to the highest standard of its kind in China, which has been held successfully in the past 12 consecutive years. Through plenty of practice in festival planning and management, Mr. Chen concluded a series of scientific theories and ideas with Chinese characteristics with regard to festival management, which have been widely acknowledged and applied by the whole festival scenes, and garnered him a great deal of prizes including “Outstanding Contribution” by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) in 2005, “Ten People of the Year of Chinese Festival and Events” in 2006, “Outstanding People from China” by IFEA in 2007, “The 30 Most Influential People in Chinese Festival and Events Industry during 30 Years of Reform & Opening Up” and “Ten People of the Time in China” in 2008. Mr. Chen is also the winner of “Excellent Planner” at the “2010 China Festival and Events Institute Award” hosted by Peking University and other institutes in 2010.
Member of Chinese Writers Association, Mr. Chen is a diligent writer in spite of busy daily work. His works including The Allure of Life, Meditations on Broadcasting, A Collection of Brief Critical Essays, Savor the Arts, to name a few, enjoy high reputation and popularity in the industry. Mr. Chen also published more than a hundred proses, novels, reportages, reviews, essays etc. He initiated and edited several series of books including China’s 100 Radio and TV Stations- Part for Shanghai East Radio, The Whirlwind from the East, The Map of International Arts Festivals, the Map of Chinese Arts Festivals, Footprints of The Art. Among the numerous awards he won there are Huadi Excellent Work Award, China Broadcasting Program Award, China News Award, Shanghai News & Articles Award.
Mr. Chen is also a prominent social activist and serves as the executive director of China International Culture Association, director of Soong Ching Ling Foundation, overseas Chinese affairs consultant of Shanghai Municipal Government and so on. He is frequently asked to deliver speeches upon the invitation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture of foreign governments, international organizations, renowned domestic festivals and universities. His deeds have been listed in quite a few Who’s Who at home and abroad. At the 2010 AAPAF Annual Meeting, Mr. Chen Shenglai was elected chair of the association.

LEE Jong-Ho studied French literature in Seoul National University and began his career in 1977 as a reporter at the "Courrier de la Corée," a French weekly published in Korea. From 1981 to 2009, he worked for Yonhap New Agency where his career in journalism prospered going through many titles, from a reporter on the city desk and a foreign correspondence in Brussels to the chief cultural editor and the vice president. He also contributed his own column on cultural policy and fashion at Yonhap News Agency, and many other articles for several renowned South Korean daily newspapers and magazines.
At the same time, he has been active as a dance critic since early 1980s. He is the representative of the "Maichoto Group," a dance-related forum that consists of critics, producers, directors, dance photographers, etc.
He established South Korea Chapter of International Dance Council CID-UNESCO in 1996, and led the success of the 13th CID-UNESCO General Assembly held in Seoul in 1998 and started SIDance (Seoul International Dance Festival), which has been held ever since every autumn and grown into the biggest comprehensive annual dance event in South Korea.
Other than being a dance journalist and president of Seoul Section of Int’l Dance Council CID-UNESCO, he has been involved in numerous dance-related projects and units, as he says “I do everything for dance, except for dancing myself.” He was a council member of IOTPD (International Organization for the Transition of Professional Dancers), deeply interested in improving social and economic status of dance and dancers. Realizing the importance of regional cultural exchange, he intends to extend the Asian collaboration with various co-productions and networks as well as colloquiums. He is also an advisor for Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Arts Council Korea, as well as a juror for various awards and numerous public funds.

Biography of Ms.Ary Sutedja

Ms.Ary Sutedja, Indonesian pianist, obtained her Master of Music degree in piano performance in the United States at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1992 where she studied with Reynaldo Reyes. While at Towson, Ms. Sutedja studied with Reynaldo Reyes, graduated summa cum laude, and received a number of awards including “Outstanding Achievement in Music”; winner of the Peggy and the Yale Gordon Foundation Scholarship; and winner of the Talent Award Competition. She subsequently undertook Postgraduate studies at St Petersburg Conservatory in Russia under the guidance of Sofia Vakman, Sergey Uryvaev and Valery Visnevsky. Her teachers in Indonesia included Iravati M. Sudiarso. While living in Germany (1980’s), she toured as piano accompanist with the Bremen Opera Theatre working under Kapellmeister Gunther Bauernschenk. Ary returned to Indonesia in 1993. In 1994 she co-founded Classical Nuances with Soun Youn Yoon (Oboist / Korea) and Sharon Eng (Viola / USA). They have performed concerts in Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, England, the United States, Greece, Kuwait, and Australia. In 1999, together with her husband Mikhail David, Ary founded JakArt, an International Arts, Cultural and Educational Festival held in Jakarta during the entire month of June 2001, June 2002 and June 2003 where Ary held the position of Secretary-General. The JakArt Festivals have hosted over 1,000 events from world-class performances and exhibitions to public art and improvised events involving spontaneous expression. The program (a.o. in dancer, theatre, music, architecture, visual arts, etc.) have taken place in over 300 venues at locations in and around Jakarta, ranging from the conventional to the alternative, and involving over 1,000 enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life, and many local and international artists. In 2004, JakArt organized Festival à la Carte, a traveling Festival that traveled to 15 cities in Java and Bali. Festival à la Carte was followed by a similar cultural program arranged by JakArt that traveled to 12 cities in the Peloponese (Greece) and in Athens during the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004. JakArt has been endorsed by UNESCO since 2002 and is a founding member of the Confederation of the Association of Asian Performing Arts Festival (AAPAF), other members which include the Singapore Arts Festival, Shanghai Arts Festival, Hong Kong Arts Festival, and the European Festival Association among many. Ary served as a member of the Jakarta Art Council from 2003 – 2006 and She also a member of the Indonesian National Committee for the Cultural Olympiad (2002 – 2004). From 2004 – present, She served as an executive council member of AAPAF organized and continues to perform solo and chamber music worldwide. In 2006, She performed in 46 cities around Indonesia together with her husband Mikhail David (a visual artist, created an Indonesian 100 cities tour concept), Indonesian cellist Asep Hidayat and Rene van Helsdingen (piano/jazz) in the program called ASAH I, II & III and They will continue the tour in 45 cities in 2011. In August 2008, her organization JakArt organized the Imaginary Festival (IF) and attended by 31 festival director and representatives from all over the world. In 2010 – 2012, she serves as vice chairperson of the AAPAF (the Association of Asian Performing Arts Festival).
