"Political Mother"

This year marks the biennial New Vision Arts Festival’s seventh edition, with a scintillating array of cross-boundary local and overseas shows lined up from 16 October to 16 November 2014. Opening the Festival is the New Vision Arts Festival Uncut version of “Political Mother”. Choreographer Hofesh Shechter has swept away festivals in Europe and the US with his unique combination of folk dance, gritty modern routines and searing soundscape. This bespoke “New Vision Arts Festival Uncut” version, with local musicians also taking part, provides an unforgettable start to the programme.

"RICE"

Equally striking for their blend of cultural insights are works by two outstanding Chinese contemporary choreographers. “RICE”, created by Lin Hwai-min to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, is a remarkable tribute to the land and nature. TAO Dance Theater performs signature pieces “4” and “5” by Tao Ye, illustrating the minimalist energy and technical dexterity that have set the dance world ablaze.

“Ravens, We Shall Load Bullets”

 The dramatic arts are also given a new twist. Japanese master director Yukio Ninagawa pushes theatrical and social convention aside to lead a group of senior citizens in Saitama Gold Theater’s “Ravens, We Shall Load Bullets”. Another Asian viewpoint with a difference is provided by renowned Indian director Roysten Abel who delivers a reverberating multi-sensory music theatre show in “The Kitchen”.

“Hedda Gabler”

This is also a ground-breaking year as the Festival itself makes its debut as a theatrical producer, with a powerful interpretation of “Hedda Gabler”, staged by eminent British director Adrian Noble and starring top local actors. New Vision breakthroughs continue with “ArtSnap”, a jaunty “festival within a festival” co-curated with British art collective Forest Fringe. Over three successive days, Kwai Tsing Theatre is transformed into a dynamic creative space filled with artistic performances and possibilities.

Local groups complete the multicultural kaleidoscope with adventurous and original productions “Black Monday”, “0 | 2”, “The Common Cold”, and uplifting a cappella music theatre show “Our Immortal Cantata”.
