Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance & Music
This annual festival brings artistes and theatres from around the world to Thailand for a comprehensive programme of great classics, challenging contemporary works, and newer performing art genres. The festival is in its 13th year and will be held during 4 September – 16 October 2011.
Classical offerings this year include Mariinsky Ballet Theatre performing Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, and a Gala of Divertissements, and Ekaterinburg Opera Theatre performing The Tsar’s Bride and The Marriage of Figaro.
Contemporary/modern works will be performed by MOVE: the Company from Canada, Introdans from the Netherlands, and Donlon Dance Company from Germany.
Representing their ethnic heritage, amongst others, will be Ballet Nacional de España, and Katia Guerreiro the Portugese songstress.
Newer performing art genres this year include Blue Planet Live! – natural history footage presented on a giant HD screen accompanied by orchestra and choir, and the Imperial Ice Stars performing Swan Lake on Ice on a frozen-over theatre stage.
